Bushcat's MiG-29
It was a cold, wet, grey day so the photos are somewhat dull. In general, the aircraft
all showed a lot of weathering: there were very few hangars at Zhukovsky, and dozens of
aircraft. The video captures come from the
video that was made of me. There is generally more informational content in the photos
than in the video captures.
- First encounter: MiG-29 from the rear, showing tailpipes.
- Tailfin detail showing "Swift Rod" ILS antenna. This strange pitchfork-thing
is an ILS antenna, the system being known as "Swift Rod" by NATO. The faired antenna above it is a radar warning antenna.
- Front quarter view, me in rear seat.
- Ural and Me strapped in, ready to go. Canopy still open. The
thing on the canopy just above my head is a periscope: there is very little forward visibility
from the rear seat, which is normally the supervisor's, so the periscope is used during
take-off and landing. Before take-off, it points rearwards so the engines and control
surfaces can be seen. Then it is pointed forwards during taxiing and takeoff. It appears
to retract automatically either when the wheels go WOG or when they retract (it was difficult
to tell: the two events seemed very close together as we roared off).
- Looking into the front seat. Video capture.
- Being strapped into the cockpit, MiG-25 tail in the background. Video capture.
- Ready to go, frontal close-up of cockpit. Video capture.
- Ready to go, frontal view. Video capture.
- Trailing smoke during take-off. Video capture.
- Part-way through a roll during the fly-by. Video capture.
- Shaking hands with Ural Solotov after a spectacular flight.
Movies in various formats
Since some of the original movies are huge, I've had to delete the largest. The remaining .avi's have been zipped, and the RealVideo will not stream: simply download and run locally:
- AVI, 25fps
- AVI, 5 fps
- RealVideo suitable for ISDN
- RealVideo suitable for 28.8k
